Yes, Soft Claws are made of safe, non-toxic adhesive and US manufacturing ensures you’re getting the safest, longest-lasting, most comfortable nail cap on the market for your furry family member.

When Soft Claws nail caps are applied, they remain in place for about 4-6 weeks. As your cat’s nails naturally grow, the nail caps will fall off. Each kit contains 40 nail caps, so one kit will last for about 4-6 months per cat.

Soft Claws was founded with the goal of keeping pets and families together. The #2 most common reason cat owners surrender their furry family member to a shelter is due to behavioral issues, most commonly destructive scratching. So how do you know if they are right for you? Here’s who Soft Claws nail caps best serve:

  • Family members looking to protect children and seniors with sensitive skin
  • Cats with skin conditions from injuring themselves with hind claws
  • Dogs with arthritis who struggle to grip the floor
  • Homeowners looking to protect furniture, flooring and other household items
  • Outdoor cats living indoors temporarily
  • Dogs for hot spots protection and from injuring themselves with hind claws
  • Pets who need protection from other pet’s harmful scratching

As any cat owner knows, cats are not the easiest to train. More importantly, scratching is normal cat behavior and we certainly do not want to interfere with a cat being a cat.

With Soft Claws on, your cat can still scratch as they please without the damage caused by sharp nails to you, your loved ones, or furniture. Our nail caps are designed so that they do not interfere with the normal extension and retraction of a cat’s claw. Nail caps are a natural solution to a natural cat behavior!

It is not uncommon for some cats to chew on or pull off their first set or two of nail caps, especially if the cat is older. Keep in mind Soft Claws are like collars - your cat needs time to adjust and get used to wearing nail caps. Most cats will get used to Soft Claws within minutes, but some may take more time and that’s okay. Your cat will become more and more used to wearing the nail caps over time and require reapplication less often.

The first thing we recommend is filling all of the nail caps with adhesive beforehand. This way you don’t have to go back and forth and you can put them on all at once. Don’t worry about the adhesive hardening as they sit in the cap before application - you have time! Another good tip is to start applying nail caps when they’re kittens so they get used to them from a young age. For older, more headstrong cats, try applying the caps when they are asleep. If all else fails, ask your vet to put them on!

Once you get the nail caps on, another good tip is to play with or reward your cat with a treat to distract them after you first put them on.

While trimming will of course shorten the nail, in a week (or less) the nail will be just as sharp. Cats naturally sharpen their nails when they scratch, which means you would need to trim your cat's nails every 5-7 days in order to prevent harmful scratching. For most cat owners, weekly nail trims are not sustainable.

Nail caps offer a longer-lasting solution to harmful scratching than nail trimming. Plus, they do not interfere with the normal extension and retraction of the claw so cats can scratch as they please without causing any damage!

Not at all! Similar to a gel manicure, Soft Claws are just along for the ride. Cats don’t feel nail caps sitting on their nails just as humans don’t feel a fake nail when they’re on. In fact, most cats hardly notice them! Soft Claws uses a cool-set adhesive and safe U.S.A.-made materials, unlike other foreign knock-off brands who use hot-set, thin adhesives which can cause discomfort. Most importantly, Soft Claws do not interfere with the normal extension and retraction of your cat’s claws so they can scratch as they please!

Yes! Soft Claws are made in the U.S.A. and were developed by a seasoned veterinarian, Dr. Wexler, so it’s no wonder vets and groomers from around the world have been using and recommending our nail caps for over 20 years! Unlike any other nail cap brand, Soft Claws uses medical-grade adhesive that is non-toxic and manufactured in America. Plus, we use a patented cleat lock technology, which far outlasts the other imported brands.

Yes! They provide a safe alternative to declawing and use non-toxic materials to keep cats safe. The Humane Society of the United States opposes declawing.  Read more here about the Humane Society on declawing.

Scratching is normal cat behavior. Your cat can still scratch, but with Soft Claws on they won’t cause any damage. Soft Claws are designed so that they won't interfere with the normal extension and retraction of cats' claws. Some cats don’t even notice them.

Yes. Soft Claws and Soft Paws are the exact same product, just a different name. Soft Claws is sold directly to consumers and Soft Paws are sold to veterinarians. Soft Claws and Soft Paws are both USA veterinary-developed, offer the Clear Lock System (CLS) and are proven original.

If a cat or dog ingest Soft Claws nail caps, then they’ll just pass through their digestive system. Soft Claws nail caps and adhesive are perfectly safe and non-toxic.

Soft Claws nail caps will fall off as the cat naturally sheds their nails. If they’ve lasted longer than 8 weeks, then you’ll need to remove them yourself. Simply trim the top of the nail cap like you would during a nail trimming. This will break off the adhesive and remove them. If you need more suggestions, please reach out to us.

Soft Claws glue is a “cool” setting, non-toxic adhesive made with safe ingredients. Getting this type of formulation precisely designed took a year of testing. The reason this is so critical is that there are many unsafe adhesives that are made with industrial, cheap materials to beware of. Overseas adhesives must be made to withstand the long ship journey from China and can be mostly filled with stabilizers to increase shelf life. The problem is that these adhesives set up hot and fast and are thin, which wicks up on the cats’ toes and their owners’ fingers. Bottom Line, only use made in the USA Soft Claws adhesive!

No they are not! While many companies in Asia advertise under the Soft Claws name, they are not “MADE IN THE USA Soft Claws." Many of them even copied our instructions word for word and say invented by a veterinarian. In most cases, the packaging hides the fact that it is "Made in China". You can be sure you’re buying authentic veterinarian trusted USA Soft Claws if the packaging says "Soft Paws or Soft Claws".

Declawing is a surgical procedure that involves the amputation of the claw and bones at the end of your cat's toes. Many people incorrectly believe that declawing is somehow similar to nail trimming. To the contrary, declawing requires general anesthesia and invasive incisions around what would be your first finger joint.

Declawing is illegal in Europe and most of the world, and is becoming considered by most U.S. veterinarians "a last resort". The reason surgical procedures such as declawing are losing popularity among pet owners is because of the common complications and pain associated with the invasive procedure. While 30 years ago declawing was very common, pet owners and many veterinarians have become far more reluctant to consider the procedure.
